Not only does he bring his athletic talents, he also brings character to a franchise looking for an identity. With the Bucks current roster they are not looking for an immediate impact but a long term leader that will shape their franchise into a potential dynasty.
Parker's biggest strength is his offensive game. He's not a one dimensional offensive player, he can take it inside, shoot from deep, set picks, and has excellent court vision. He has a knack for the offensive game and he doesn't shy from the ball in high pressure situations. This is the reason the Bucks chose Parker with the 2nd overall pick, last season the Bucks were 28th in points scored per game shooting an abysmal 43.8% which ranked 26th in the league. Parker at Duke scored 19 points a game shooting at 47%, coming into the NBA his shooting percentages are slightly better than Carmelo and about on par with Kevin Durant when they entered the league.
Another one of his positives is his outstanding rebounding ability. He is very long, he has a wingspan of almost 7 feet and a standing reach of 8 feet 8 inches. At Duke he averaged 8.8 rebounds per game, the Bucks were 23rd in total rebounds averaging 41 rebounds a game. Even if Parker only averages 5 rebounds a game it puts the Bucks towards the top of the league in rebounds. With a front-court of Parker, Antetokounmpo, and Larry Sanders there is a lot of height and some great rebounders for the Bucks.
Although Parker has many strengths there are some flaws to his game defensively. He struggles to defend quicker forwards but he is an average defender in the post. He makes up for his lack of defensive ability with his rebounding. His basketball knowledge also helps him defensively read the passing lanes and come up with a few steals a game. The only other knock on him is his weight, there have been some speculations that he gained weight over the offseason but time will tell once he suits up.
This is a great pick for the Bucks, it gives them an offensive threat which they have been struggling to find the past few seasons. I think it will take Parker a few seasons to become an all-star player because he will need to carry this Bucks team until they can get better role players around him. This is probably the most exciting player for the Bucks since Andrew Bogut. What kind of impact will he make on the league this year? If your favorite had the number 1 pick, would you take Wiggins or Parker?
Jabari is gonna be a good player. He has talent and lots of class. He's a good kid. I wish my team could've picked him up in the draft.
ReplyDeleteYeah he showed in the Summer League he can score. We'll see how he does in the regular season. He's Blaine's pick for ROY.
